AN overview of projects underway for ARRIS 93, and a list of projects under consideration for other versions.

Contents

Projects under consideration for ARRIS

1. Bug Fixes

  • Get a list of 10 bugs to fix now.

2. RI and entity attributes and reporting

  • (We have started on this one)

3. Better was to import tables, etc. from Excel or Word.

4. Better "Smart walls", doors and windows

  • Create 2D and 3D at the same time
  • Better reporting – door and window schedules, etc.

5. Better Cross hatch, boundaries, etc.

6. Better Zones, area calcs and reporting

  • (We fixed some area calc bugs in 9.1)

7. Better and easier viewports

8. Better rendering - lights, reflections and shadows

  • (Should we include IRender or an interface to IRender)

9. Better DWG input and output

  • (What can we do to tie in better with the Expert Translator. E.g. Polylines which match AutoCAD better.)

10. 16:9 menus

  • Make better use of the wide screen and large screen menu area.

Bugs

Bugs currently being worked on

  1. Fence problem for Area Edits
  2. Logitech trackball mouse problems
  3. $sirgen reports not working in 9.0 and 9.1
  4. ARRIS menu "Sample" windows - such as in the Text Create menu do not display properly.
  5. BuildersCAD has problems selecting a Roof plane, particularly when editing.
  6. BuildersCAD seems to lose the Distance Relative setting
  7. Area calc problem when work angle is on

Attributes

Assign Attributes to RI’s and other entities

  • Quick attribute – such as comment – for reference or display in EZ 4.
  • Formalized attributes – definitions, defaults values, etc.

Quick Attributes

  • Can be used by any user.
  • Click on entity and set attribute.
  • These can be placed on any entity – not just RI’s

Formalized Attributes

Need some setup to use.

These are defined by 2 CSV files

  • one to define the attributes, and
  • one to specify default values by RI name.

Define attributes

  • type, decimal places, justification

Defaults values for RI’s

  • keyed by RI name – stored in CSV (and later SQL) file

Overrides for RI Occurrence

  • Definition file defines which ones can be overridden.

EZ Integration

  • All attributes can be viewed from EZ.
  • In Select Entities mode, when you select an entity, EZ knows about and selects the entire object. (Notice the selected chair is purple.)
  • When you double click the entity, you can view its attributes.
  • Every entity gets an attribute for its type. RI’s get an additional attribute for the RI-name.
  • This chair has additional attributes assigned in ARRIS 9.2

Reports

We will create a usable, sample report, and let users create their own reports. (Either by modifying the code for this report, or by exporting to CSV, Excel or a database and creating reports externally.)

Bill of Materials

  • A “simple” component listing is useful for many reports
  • An “indented bill of materials” requires more set-up (creation on sub-assemblies (sub-RI’s), and definition of attributes. (This work would rarely be done for a single project. But makes sense for ”manufacturers”, or if you have items you will use for multiple projects.

Rich Text

Rich Text allows you to use text fonts, sizes, colors, and images to create 2D text for placement in ARRIS.

The placement Wizard is identical to Wordpad, and you can load and save Wordpad documents.

In general you can paste items from Word or Excel, but not all features are pasted properly.

  • Phase I will place the text in ARRIS as an image.
  • Phase II will print and display the text at higher resolution.
