View Full Version : translating from network device fails
Hi Salleh,
Today a user found out that he isn't able to translate from an other network device then where the arris projects reside. I believe Pamela or Amy also mentioned this problem.
We have a Unix server with 2 shares data and data1. On the clients (windows) we mapped station T:\ to \\cad\data and U:\ to \\cad\data1.
T:\- is the standard folder where we have the current projects and office standards. U:\ is our archive.
If you try to translate drawings from U:\ it fails.
In unix there is the ability to create a softlink, so when I create a softlink on \\cad\data to \\cad\data1 and call it eg u-folder and then open the drawing through that folder the translation goes well. This is a workaround.
Can you make this work on a normal way?

Wim,
Can you send me the log file created during the failed Translation, unless the failure occured in the Sigmac side during calling the Translator DLL file, then send to me the exactl ARRIS error message.
If the failure occured early in the Translation before reading the user input, look for a file whose name is tempfile.log in the working directory or the User directory.
Thanks,

Hi Wim,
thanks for the log file.
Yes I did work on importing DWG into the current ARRIS database. Its current details are as follows:
I will make on the fly an RI out of the DWG selected, with the same name, (saved in an RILIB inside the db directory), and then let the end User insert it with the required scale and rotation anywhere he/she want on the current layer. This is somewhat similar to the XRef functionality of AutoCAD.
The question is where I will put this routine?
either with the DWG Translator (already is too big to handle more stuff).
or I will add it to my ARRISplus application, specially that it need a good user friendly user interface.

I think altering the import menu (together with SDI) would be the nicest thing.
Did you solve the network problem?

I already put this new routine - called "dwgplace" (similar to riplace) - with the RILIB Translator plugin Application, as it shares a big parts of the source codes with that program.
Currently - during the Beta Testing - it needs an Authcode for the RILIB Application; but in the Release version it will have its own authcode. The program will be installed on the same directory as the RILIB Translator under the directory $ARRIS\ap\infocad.vn\rilib.ap.
I made this routine available to be called from any other location. The user can put it in the Tools-Bar, or may be Sigma Design will add it to the Repeated-Items Overwrite Menu.
I hope you will like it, as I do during the alfa and beta testing - working with ARRIS 83 and AutoCAD R2000.
What is remaining to do to complete this application in order to get ready for release, is to upgrade the RILIB Translator to support AutoCAD up to release 2008, this is a deja-vue technology that has been applied before in the Expert translator for ARRIS Program. The current version of the RILIB is 5 years old and only supports up to AutoCAD release 2000, and I think this will not be acceptable for this new routine.

Salleh, I think an option to explode the RI right away and also deleting the (temporary) library has to be added.
This prevents the network to be filled up with unused RI Libraries.
Another option is to give the user the ability to store the new RI into the project library, so it will be preserved for future use.
Further keep in mind that when a user hits the escape button during import, the initial library should be deleted.
Do you already have a beta to test? If so can you mail it to me?
Thanks!

Hi Wim and all ARRIS/BCAD users,
thank you Wim for your valuable recommendations.
I just posted on the web site the first Beta-1 release of the new ARRIS/BCAD Plug-In application, called “DWGplace”.
The Attached zip file contains a PDF file with more information and the instructions how to download, install and use of this new application.
All end users are hereby invited to volunteer and test this new application and to suggest any new additions and enhancements to this new application they see adequate for their ARRISCAD/BCAD design and drafting needs.
This new application was internally Alfa tested with ARRISCAD release 8.3 and 9.2
Thank you all,
Salleh Diab
In one word: AWESOME!
Thanks very very much for this Salleh.
First test runs are very cool.
Comments on layout design menus etc. will definitly follow.
Salleh,
Which default config file is being used, std:\trans.dir\corp_std.icf or $ARRIS 91\ap\infocad.vn\dwg.ap\etrans.ini?
Ok, found this one myself, it's the last one.
Why do you limit the size of the dwg? I loaded a dwg of 206kb and it worked fine.
There seems to be a scale problem, RI's come in 25,4 times larger than the original in a metric database.
If I do a normal translation to dwg with ET 7.603, and after that do a :et_dwgplace;dwg, I get a logfile created and opened automatically.

Hi Wim,
Most of your concerns have been taken care of in the new Beta2 release of the DWGplace.
Use the link below to download the DWGplace Beta2 program:
www.expert-infocad.com/anonftp/download/beta/e-translator/dwgplace-beta2.zip
The release notes, and the instructions to install and use this Beta2 release is found in a PDF file within the downloaded zip file.
Thank you for your supports,
Salleh Diab
